FUNCTION OF
COPPER (Cu) IN PLANTS
1. Copper is necessary to form chlorophyll in plants. copper catalyze several plant processes.
2. Copper has important function in root metabolism as well as in utilization of ammoniac nitrogen by plants.
3. It acts as " electron carrier " in enzymes which bring about oxidation reduction reaction in plants.
4. It helps in utilization of Iron in chlorophyll synthesis.
5. It regulates respiration in plant.
Deficiency symptom of Copper
Common symptom of Copper deficiency include die back in citrus and blasting of onions and truck crops. Many vegetable crops show hunger with leaves that lose turger and developed a bluish green shade before becoming chlorotic and curling and the plant fail to flower.
Older leaves become bad shaped.
Gum like viscous material is stored in the fruits.
