Crops Deficiency Symptoms of Zinc & Amelioration Techniques
 
COTTON 

The Zn deficiency symptoms appear after three weeks of sowing. Causing bronzing of new and old leaves. The brown colour spots extend from the leaf tip towards occurs on margins. The scorch portion turns brown. interveinal cholorises in the form of golden yellow colour observed in the middle leaves. The old land middle leaves also show upwards are downwards cupping tendency. The plants bear less fruit and opening of bolls is abnormal.  

Soil Application: 25 Kg Zn Sulphate should be applied before sowing. 

Foliar Application: for spraying one hectare crop, dissolve 2.5 Kg. Zn ! Sulphate and 10 Kg Urea (or 1.25 Kg slaked lime) in 500 litters at-least 1 to 2 times at an interval of 7 to 10 days.

 

CITRUS CROP 

Zn deficiency symptoms appears gradually, only on a few leaves having small specks of yellow between the veins. Later the young leaves have irregular areas between the veins, which turn yellow as the leaves matured. The affected leaves becomes entirely yellow is the case of severe deficiency but the usually the irregular areas along the veins remain green. There is thus a sharp colour contrast between the veins and interveinal areas. The leaf also become very small and narrow, with pointed tips and the twinges may start dying back. The fruits on severely deficient trees generally have a smooth, light colour thin rind. 

Soil Application: Quantity of Zn Sulphate per plant should be applied 200 to 250 Gm 

Foliar Application: In Apple 0.02% in dormant stage. In Banana 0.05% repeated spray at regular interval. In Citrus fruits 0.05% should be spray 3 to ~ times in a year mainly luring April, June, September. In Mango 0.02% Zn Sulphate should be spray 2 to 3 times March April June & July.

 

FRUIT CROPS: APPLE, PEAR, BANANA, GRAPES, PAPAYA & MANGO

The Zn deficiency of apple, commonly called "rosette" is correcterised by a dense cluster of small leaves that terminate a branch, which is usually leafless. The leaves become red & yellow in colour. In banana the fruit development and fingers are twisted, shorter, thinner and lighter green in colour than those of normal plants.

Soil Application: Quantity of Zn Sulphate per plant should be applied 200 to 250 Gm
